If I were a Filipino parent, and I oversaw my child fighting a boss named

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Alana_Pekpek

or

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Edibbo_Pekpek

I would probably make sure that game was uninstalled and never played again

(if you are curious, google 'tagalog pekpek' and you'll see what I mean)

I was wondering what they were thinking when they named a green weapon "SourBeaks Taint"...... google the second part of the name and you'll find plenty of offensive stuff as well.

I had a female necro way back when named Chaotic Biatch and I had people saying they were going to report the name, so I deleted her and made a new necro (TDD). I also have a PvP ranger named Chik With A Stik (was a trapper lol) that I'm just keeping until I get a Bday present for her (11 months :P).

OUCH.....
Surely developing a game, they check all this sort of thing out. Isnt that why brand names all over the world are diverse and different to what you get in a store where you live? ie....some toilet cleaner in UK is called something different in say....china or malaysia or wherever....due to the fact that the brand name UK is ok but locally in wherever, its terribly offensive..

I used to work in the label printing trade. I remember when a company made a BIG error even after it had been proofed, by missing a small dot on a kanji written label. apparantly without the dot it meant something incestuous and the buying company went apes**t...
Simple phrases etc can mean something vastly different all over the world, and if actual ingame NPC names can mean offensive words in other languages shouldnt ANET be in the process of changing those before telling US off for something that is probably a little purile and just "teen" humour.

I dont mean really nasty names but "silly" daft humour names like as has been posted holy McBoobies etc..mine (drew p juggs) wasnt meant to be offensive just stupid humour.
If it offended someone(yeah thanks to whom ever reported it and got me a nasty email from ANET) then i apologise, but come on life is too short...live a little and laugh a lot!

My friend with a character called 'Blonde Biatch' was banned and had to change the name. It was reaching 2 years old though, and he had had no problems before.

TBH, I think if someone else complains about a name, and gives a reason to suggest why it is even remotely offensive to them, ANet will send out a ban.

It must be a very hard job for A-net to police in game names in order to keep everyone happy. Something that is funny to some people may not be funny to many many others, so I guess its a thankless task. But I do feel sorry for people like the OP who have what does look like a pretty none offensive name who gets a ban *quickly runs off to delete his NF Female Ele called Ruby Peaks*

However, some people just take things to the extreme. I saw an ele last night in pre-searing Ascalon with the name Child Molest Or. This idiot was also running around stating in local chat that "if anyone has a char smaller than me they will get bumrap.ed...." blah blah. He/she had deliberately put the "." in there so the language filter didn't pick it up. I just can't get my head around what motivates people to behave like this??!!

I took a screen shot and posted a support ticket so hopefully this idiot will be banned for good and not just get a slap on the wrist 72 hour ban because, imho, the name and behaviour warrents it in this case.

This is what happens when I get off work and have nothing productive to do for the evening and am presented with a stupid situation.

So, the issue is making sure all users are comfortable. eh? Really?

Well then, the following has been judged by ANet and NCSoft as material that will NOT make users uncomfortable.

Nothing bad there. A few thongs, some underwear, assless chaps, almost full frontal nudity, you know, typical video game stuff.

However, the following has been deemed CAPABLE of rendering some users uncomfortable.

** WARNING ** The following contains graphic um, words(?) ** WARNING **
"Holy McBoobies"

Oh n0es, I am now uncomfortable. Digital-Semi-nudity is one thing, but childish words is too much!!!!

Sorry, I could not help myself, I needed an excuse to open up paint.
To make your post have more weight you should have used the female necro's underwear, i once noticed there is a little extra to see there

I don't know about their underwear, but look closely at Necromancer Krytan armor on lighter-skinned female chara. I swear you can see what looks like the edges of their nipples.

This is certainly no more vulgar (and in my opinion a lot less) than the recent high ranking tournament guild Battery Powered Best Friend (Vibe) that was banned after a complaint and then reinstated on appeal.

Personally I would rather have a 12 year old laugh about the boobies reference, than have to explain what that guild name means. (and let's not pretend that it means anything other than a very vaguely veiled sexual reference please!)

I just don't get why the word Boobies is banned. The Boobies is a fine marine bird and deserves to be allowed as a name in game. We can use the word Raven, Eagle, Hawk etc for names.. Why not the Boobies? Why is this fine bird left out? Its like the flower Honeysuckle there was no reason to disallow the flower for a name. Its a fine Flower and if someone uses it for a character name its an honor for the flower or the bird to be used in this way.

ANET should just have the balls to respond to complaints about Boobies as a name by stating the following.

"We at ANET believe Boobies are fine birds and we see nothing wrong with the name. We encourage creativity in name that use animals like Raven or Hawk. Please grow up and get an education on grammar. Its not like the user of this name is using the word Breasts or Nipples. Now go do something positive with your life or go play Guild Wars."

Instead we get garbage like name banding's. I swear I'm more offended at words like biatch then Boobies because its bad grammar. At least spell Bitch correct and BTW Bitch is a proper word like Dog. Bitch is a female canine for those educated in government sponsored schools and not a "bad" word.

For those who don't know what Boobies are.

As for the word Bitch a Bitch is nothing less than a female breeding canine.
http://www.britannica.com/eb/topic-67180/bitch

bitch magazine is also a womans magazine so it can't be offensive to women.

Hey if the women's movement supports the word I can't see how its a bad term.

I should have used the bird defense!!! Its flawless.

I will say that while they responded to me multiple times yesterday, ANets responce team is no longer responding to me now that I have posed the paradox and direct question about how my character name is more able to make people uncomfortable than the visual content they have put into the game. I do not know if they are ignoring me, if they are waiting for some higher up to write up a bs explanation that in the ends still forced me to change my character name, if they do not care, or if they are simply trying to figure out how to word a "ok you're right this targeting of your character name is pretty silly given the level of content we have included in the game" message.

I assume they are simply ignoring me, because the have already made my money and do not really care that I am unsatisfied with their double standards.

and here I was thinking it was obvious. I'm more offended at ANET's lack of an English grammar education. You mean to say they don't or did not know what Boobies are?

It's such a fine bird too.

Good Point there, however Anet thinks people will understand those words in a bad way and yet they do this: in english means seed of life, a little of imagination may make that skill look perverted. So from what I can understand they can make those disallowed words but players can't, childish acting I tell you.

I must lack that imagination because no matter how hard I try I can't make those words seem perverted. Itallian?
